Up For Hire: A Rant

I've been watching 'Up For Hire' (A live studio programme about finding a job) on BBC3 every night this week and on the second episode this woman called Katie Hopkins said that taking a media at university or college is stupid and as it's 'mickey mouse' subject - As you can probably assume this cause extreme uproar from the audience and on Twitter. I'm not personally planning on taking a media related subject at university but from what I've learnt from my diploma at college it is not as simple as people make out to be, you have to analyse and research every little thing you do and it is hard work. Sure it seems to attract lazy boys who have only taken it as something to do (not to stereotype too badly but it's true) Nowadays just like the 1950's and 60's taking woodwork and sewing lessons was important at the time that with the boom in the communication industries and media commerce its no surprise that's it's so popular and important in 2011! As with all subjects you get the people who can't be bothered to try and do well and then you get the people who really want to succeed and achieve something. What I disagree with is the labelling that all media students are the same and putting people down to their subject choices. You can't be defined like that, surely theres always going to be people who love science as an outside academic interest but they take art as they want to go into that field? You are defined by how you succeed not what you take to get there. I know how determined people in my class are and I know there's some people who will leave in July and end up working in Tesco for the rest of their lives but for one 50 year old woman who knows nothing about now to say that and actually make a member of audience (and many others) question their career choices is massively unprofessional and frankly seriously embarrassing for her.

30th March 2011 : Best day of my life.

As you probably know I LOVE LOVE LOVE Taylor Swift and she has been my favourite person in the world for almost four years now :) I've seen her on the fearless tour at wembley arena, got things signed by her outside radio 2 in october, was in the audience when she was at paul o'grady live last year, saw her live at the teen awards and last week met some of her band outside abbey road studios and saw her live again at the o2 three rows from the front on Wednesday.
ALL YEAR I had been counting down the days to that day. Me and my friend decided to dress up as fairies and we had her lyrics written all over our arms, we looked slightly weird but it didn't matter haha :) We met some lovely people during the day too and despite the awkwardness of getting to the o2 it was all worth it!
As we sat down in our seats I was almost crying at how close we were, we were on the side of the aisle but It turned out to be amazing :) After her support act (Martin & James) had finished I kept looking over at the sound booth (which was behind us) which is where her mum stands during the concert - and I wanted to give her my letter to give it Taylor. Suddenly I saw her walk down RIGHT DOWN OUR AISLE! no one was going crazy or rushing up to her or anything so i just shouted ANDREAAAAA!!! and she stopped and said hiiiiii :) thanks for coming and I asked her if i could give her something to give to Taylor and she said sure and I wasn't expecting her to wait for me whilst I got it out of my bag but she did so i gave it to her & she hugged me and then got mobbed by everyone else haha then i burst into tears because i couldn't believe what just happened? but I LOVE HER!<3 then when Taylor came on IT WAS SO AMAZING GO AND SEE HER IF YOU GET THE CHANCE PLEASE!!!<3 Then halfway through her manager came up to me and my friend and gave us special Taylor guitar picks :') YAY! Then she does this walk through the crowd on the way back and the security people started to put a barrier around us and we were going craaaazy! When she walked back from the mini stage I managed to hold her hand for like half a second haha <3 Then when the concert finished her mum walked past again & gave us more guitar picks. It was a total fairytale & I loved every second of it.
Still on a mission to meet Taylor....eventually ;)
